The goal of to be”Unique” is, in other words, to establish “your own style”.
For most people probably,
Of course you have a few of other favorite genres which actually is “not” your style, but you don’t want to make your dislike, right?
If this is true for you, pursuit and better understanding yourself is the fastest way to build your own unique style.
Everyone has one’s preference, and each preference is different from others.
look at yourself carefully and take care of your preference much more.
This leads to sharpen your preference; in other words, hone your sense.
I’d like to introduce the easiest way which everyone can do right away.
watching others’ work is a good way to hone your sense.
I bet it’s already your habit to click” like” without any or little thought.
Don’t click a” like” instantly; change your habit.
Many click “like” without any hesitation, even they do”like” , just because they want “like back”.
It’s just not a “like”, but blind “like” clicking eventually paralyzes your sense of values; ruins your soul.
Our arts come from our mind, so listen your inner voice carefully and follow your guts with honestly manner is an important aspect of being an artist.
When you “like” it, can you say the reason?
“Do I really like it? Does it really good?”.
Follow your guts but think twice.
You can say “Yes I like it”, then what part you like ? for example:
“well managed post process”
“vivid color” etc..
Simple one or two words is enough. Make them clear.
When you dislike a photo, thinks in the same way like;
“looks good, but the main subject is blurred.”
“Too much saturation”
“The sky has terrible banding effect” etc.etc……
You don’t need comment them, ” think” by your self matters.
Along with the thinking of the reason of dislike, you’d better to think: “what make the photo much better?.”
Keep doing this, you’ll have subjective yet with objective perspective, which is importantly can help you when you are making your own image.
Don’t be easy on yourself.
Look your image carefully just like a curator.
Detect the problem, be a nitpicker :
Did the composition OK? (This should be done when you were in the field)
How about the contrast?
Not too dark, no too light?
Is there any fringe or noise?
Does it have any drama?
Harder on yourself, more improve your image.
Never judge a image by the numbers of “followers” he or she has.
Judge them by your own sense.
“YOU” are the one who first “like” and judges your work.
Your work should not be judged by followers nor the number of “like” you would possibly get.
Having many “like”s make us happy, but that’s all.
Don’t be addict of “Instant satisfaction”.
Remember what’s your goal? Where are you going?
I’ve seen so many people who have a great talent but soaked in the “like competition”.
You should just focus on your creation make better, “not” for getting more “like”.
You should”like” your work from the bottom of your heart, which is the most precious “like”on the earth.
This is the simple first step to be unique.
May the UNIQUE be with you.
